Republic F-105 Thunderchief Development DVD
This DVD is a collection of films and newsreels on the famous Republic F-105 Thunderchief, a fighter-bomber that could fly supersonic at Mach 2. The F-105 bore the brunt of the jet fighter bomb runs over Vietnam in the early years of the conflict. This DVD concentrates on the development of the F-105 and its early days.
Film #1 - F-105 Development - This is a Republic Aircraft Co. film on the F-105 development. The goal was to develop a fighter jet that could fly aerodynamically at Mach 2 supersonic speeds and keep it stable. The F-105 did just that. This is worth watching! Runtime is about 26 minutes.
Film #2 - F-105 and F.O.D. - The F-105 was known as the Jet with Nostrils because of the design of the fighter's air intakes. The air intake design created a vacuum and thus an answer was needed for FOD (Foreign Object Damage). This is that story. Great narrated F-105 footage too. Runtime is about 15 minutes.
Film #3 - F-105 Newsreels - This is a collection of newsreels on the F-105:
- F-105 Ready For Service
- KB-50 Refuels F-105s
- F-100 and F-105 demonstrates TAC
- Yakima War Games
- Tactical Firepower
Runtime is about 15 minutes.
Film #4 - F-105 in Vietnam - This is an Air Force film on the F-105 over Vietnam called 25 hour Day. The film shows the Thunderchiefs flying around the clock, 24 hours a day, rain or night, the Thuds flew and flew until it was a blur to both the pilots and ground crews. This film shows start-ups, repairs, takeoffs, refuelings, and bombing runs. Great piece of history. Runtime is about 26 minutes.
Film #5 - F-105 Fueling and Armament - This is rare Republic footage on fueling the F-105, plus loading armament such as the LAV-32 and the Blu-1. This collection is silent, so we added a soundtrack to it. Runtime is about 9 minutes.
Total runtime for the Republic F-105 Thunderchief Development DVD is about 91 minutes. Format is NTSC DVD and region-free.
