PBY Catalina Flying Boats WWII DVD
This DVD is about the US Navy Consolidated PBY Catalina Flying Boats of the WWII era. Developed in the 1930s as a patrol bomber, the PBY Catalina had a long operational range well suited to scout large ocean expanses for enemy ships during WWII. The PBY was also used for anti-submarine warfare, air-sea rescue, convoy escort and cargo transport.
1st film: "The Story of the Black Cats" - This is about the story of how the PBYs bombed the Japanese supply ships. Runtime is about 20 minutes.
2nd Film: "Eyes of the Navy". A USN film on Navy pre-WWII aviation and the importance of naval aircraft. Runtime is about 19 minutes.
3rd Film: "The Story of the PBYs at Pearl Harbor Dec 7th" Our film tells the story about PBYs on the day of Pearl Harbor attack, Dec 7th, 1941. One little known fact is that a PBY (PBY #2) reported sinking a submarine at 7:00 AM that morning - about an hour before the main aerial attack at about 8:00am. Runtime is about 5 minutes.
4th film: "Military Seaplane Newsreels" - A collection of newsreels, from the famous N-4, the big MARS seaplane by the Navy, (There were two versions of the Mars, (Version 1 was a twin tail and Version 2 was a single tail). Plus the building and flying of the famous Spruce Goose by Howard Hughes. Rare and hard to find footage. Runtime is about 18 minutes.
5th Film: "What is a USN Seagull" - Our film about the Navy's Curtis SOC Seagull observation seaplane. This biplane served on battleships and cruisers as a scout plane. Runtime is about 4 minutes.
6th Film: "German Seaplanes" - German seaplanes of the WWII era. Runtime is about 20 minutes.
7th Film: "Stock Footage of the Canadair CL-415". This is bonus footage of two Canadair Fire Planes on loan from Canada during a major fire in southern California. This pair of planes assisted in dousing the fire using lake water. Filmed in HD. Runtime is about 5 minutes.
