Lockheed L-1049 C-69 C-121 Constellation DVD
This DVD is a collection of five films on the Lockheed L-1049 Constellation airliner, C-69 military AWAC and C-121 military transport. First flown in 1943, the Constellation was a propeller-driven four engine airliner with sleek and powerful styling. Its pressurized-cabin - the first in widespread usage for a civilian airliner - enabled passengers to fly well above bad weather . After WWII, the Constellation was used by major airlines to fly long-range intercontinental routes.
Film #1 - A Letter to a Pilot - A great TWA film on the wonders of L-1049 Constellation. A passenger writes a letter to the pilot and the pilot writes back to credit all of the people who work at TWA to keep the Connie flying. From the factory, to maintenance, to check-in folks to the crews that fly on the airline. Great footage throughout. Runtime is about 27 minutes.
Film #2 - Eastern Airline Part 1 - An Eastern Airline film narrated by pilot Arthur Godfrey, a WW2 pilot and movie celebrity who explains a flight aboard the L-1049 Constellation as he pilots the aircraft. Runtime is about 23 minutes.
Film #3 - Eastern Airline Part 2 -Arthur Godfrey lands the Connie and then explains the future is jet engines. He also meets with the owner of Eastern Airlines, the great WW1 Ace Eddie Rickenbacker, at the end of the film. Runtime is about 24 minutes.
Film #4 - Hurricane Hunter - A USN film on an RC-121 L-1049 Constellation being used to fly through hurricanes to get scientific information, a very rough ride. The goal is to collect information to be used for an early warning system on forecasting weather. A story of a day and life of an RC-121 aircraft as they fly through a hurricane. Runtime is about 21 minutes.
Film #5 - Connie Newsreels - This a collection of newsreels about Constellation aircraft. 1st. C-69 Transport. 2nd, Air Power, the RC-121. 3rd, The RC-121 explained. 4th, USN C-121 AWAC. 5th, The Navy vs the gooney bird. Runtime is about 5 minutes.
