During the Cold War, the Soviet Union deployed a fleet of nearly 700 diesel and nuclear submarines, some of them armed with nuclear missiles. To counter this alarming threat, the U.S. Navy developed a host of new anti-submarine aircraft and ships, and devoted an entire class of attack submarines to the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) mission.
Featured on this DVD are five rare films showing these capabilities as they appeared at the height of the Cold War. Watch as land-based P-2 Neptune and P-3 Orion aircraft, and carrier-based Grumman S-2 Trackers and ASW helicopters, work in concert with destroyers and friendly submarines to locate and track rogue subs. Learn about the advanced equipment, from sonobuoys to magnetic anomaly detectors and forward infrared scanners, used to detect snorkeling and submerged targets. See the weapons systems that would have been unleashed on Ivan's submarine fleet had the Cold War been a hot one, and which still ceaselessly guards America's shores against hostile incursion... from the depths.
