US Navy Iowa Class Battleships DVD

This DVD is a collection of six films on the US Navy's Iowa Class Battleships. First launched during WWII, these battleships sported nine 16 inch guns as well as up to 20 inches of armor on the turrets. The battleships were later used during the Korean and Vietnam wars, Lebanon as well as Operation Desert Storm.

Film #1 - American Dreadnoughts - This film was produced in the 60s and shows the history of these mighty battleships from their launching to the wars they fought in up to that time. Great stuff from the deck of the New Jersey. Runtime is about 32 minutes.

Film #2 - Floating Fortress - This film is about the US Navy Battleship USS Missouri BB-63 and life aboard as she serves off the coast of Korea. Great shots of firing those big guns at the coast of Korea and of course life aboard the ship. Runtime is about 14 minutes.

Film #3 - Living and Working -A Navy film on a day of living aboard an Iowa-Class Battleship. Runtime is about 20 minutes.

Film #4 - The Fleet That Came To Stay - This film shows the buildup of the fleet in the Pacific. It starts off with battleships and goes through the fleet as America builds up her war arsenal against Japan. It is almost uncomprehensible how big the US Navy got in 1944 and 1945. Runtime is about 21 minutes.

Film #5 - Battleship Newsreels - This a collection of newsreels about battleships. 1st. Animated short film on the Iowa Class Battleship. 2nd, BB-58 being tested out. 3rd, USS Iowa Joins the Navy. 4th, USS New Jersey is launched. 5th, Mighty Missouri is launched. 6th, BB-63 fire supports troops at Anzio. 7th, Japan surrenders on the USS Missouri BB-63. 8th, Navy Day in New York. 9th, Iowa-Class Battleships mothballed-The Zipper Fleet. 10th, Missouri Blasts Korea. 11th, Wisconsin fires off the coast of Korea. Runtime is about 21 minutes.

Film #6 Bonus - Home Footage New Jersey - In 1989, the USS New Jersey was filmed at Long Beach were she was stationed at the time. That day she was in the bay so she was circled and filmed from a sailboat. A good VHS camera was used, but low quality by today's standards. Runtime is about 5 minutes.

Total runtime for the US Navy Iowa Class Battleships DVD is about 108 minutes. Format is NTSC DVD and region-free.
