US Air Force Boeing B-47 Stratojet DVD

This DVD is a collection of six films and newsreels on the USAF's Boeing B-47 Stratojet. The Boeing B-47 was a long-range, six-engine, jet-powered strategic bomber designed to fly at high subsonic speeds (600 mph) and at high altitudes to avoid enemy interception. The B-47's mission was primarily to drop nuclear bombs on the Soviet Union. With its engines carried in pods under the swept wings, plus the fact that the wings could flex up to 11 feet, the B-47 was a major innovation in post-World War II technology. The B-47 was so advanced that most folks thought that it could not really fly, or at least fly safely. It turned out to be a great flying aircraft, except for its hot landings.

Film #1 - B-47 Familiarization - This is a USAF film on flying and familiarization of the Boeing B-47 Stratojet. Because the Boeing B-47 was so advanced and different than WW2 prop planes, it was necessary to have long training programs to get pilots up to speed. This film shows all of these major flight characteristics of the B-47, like takeoffs and landings, etc. Runtime is about 37 minutes.

Film #2 - B-47 Auto Pilot - This is a USAF film on the auto pilot system on the Boeing B-47 Stratojet and how to use it. This is a slow, but important feature about the B-47 to help tame the aircraft. Runtime is about 19 minutes.

Film #3 - SAC and the B-47 - This is a US Air Force film about the Cold War between 1953 to 1959 and the B-47 plus other aircraft used during this time period. Runtime is about 14 minutes.

Film #4 - The Strength of SAC - This a USAF film on the Strategic Air Command and its aircraft and SAC's function. Mostly used is the B-52 but there is great footage of the B-47 as well. SAC was designed to be able to strike at the Russians on any given moment. Amazing original story of man and aircraft. Runtime is about 28 minutes.

Film #5 - RB-47 Spy Plane - This a film on US photo recon planes, mostly the RB-47 StratoJet. Runtime is about 5 minutes.

Film #6 - B-47 Newsreels - This is a collection of newsreels. 1st: SAC use of Municipal Airports for readiness. 2nd: B-47 accidentally drops A-bomb on small USA town. 3rd: Early Jet development. 4th: B-47 crash lands and explained. 5th: Remote control B-47s. Runtime is about 17 minutes.

Total runtime for the US Air Force Boeing B-47 Stratojet DVD is about 120 minutes. Format is NTSC DVD and region-free.
