China Clipper: Pan Am's Conquest of the Pacific is a excellent documentary of Pan Am's ten-year conquest of the Pacific Ocean in the 1930s. While footage of earlier Pan Am Clippers (Sikorsky S-42, Martin M-130) is in black-and-white, there is never before seen *color* footage of the Boeing B-314 flying boats. The extensive exterior and interior B-314 shots in *color* are amazing.
Shows the overnight sleeping berths on the B-314 and on-board luxury dining. See B-314 crew members performing their tasks on the spacious flight deck. Watch takeoffs and landings of this huge flying boat.
Covers the exploratory period (the survey flights and construction of island bases on Wake, Midway, and Guam) and the passenger service years. Also covers Pan Am's role in the World War II. Contains footage that shows Pan Am owned hotels on Pacific Island stopovers as well as on Honolulu, Hong Kong and Manila. Other seaplanes covered include the Sikorsky S-40, S-42 including rare footage of Sikorsky's last seaplane, the VS-44A.
Excellent item or gift for the Pan Am aviation enthusiast.
