Description

The Vickers VC10 was an early British jet airliner designed in the late 1950s and first flown in 1962. It was superbly engineered but too late and tailored to the needs of only a small proportion of its potential customers. The video, using some amazing fully restored achive film from BAE Systems, presents the story of the VC10.

The construction, pre-delivery flight testing, and displays at Paris and Farnborough are all covered as well as BOAC's first Standard VC10 service to Lagos and subsequent deliveries to the Commonwealth customers: Ghana, East African and Nigeria Airways, MEA, and Gulf Air. The civil use of the VC10 concludes with the Sultan of Oman's executive model.

RAF (Royal Air Force) use of the VC10 is also covered from the first hand-over of the aircraft to 10 Squadron, to RAF use of the VC10 as an airliner, to its usage as an air tanker. There are some stunning shots of Tornadoes, Jaguars, and a prototype Nimrod all engaging in air refueling with the VC10.

The video is in full color throughout with superb digital stereo sound. It is in DVD NTSC format and region-free. The runtime is 65 minutes. A "must" video for all interested in jet airliners and military tankers from the dawn of the jet age.
