Convair PB4Y-2/P4Y-2 Privateer WWII Flying Boat by Veronico & Ginter is a softcover non-fiction book 241 pages in length. This book covers the history of the Convair PB4Y-2/P4Y-2 Privateer WWII flying boat including WWII operational history. The PB4Y-2/P4Y-2 Privateer story is mostly told by the more than 500 black-and-white photos and line drawings that are in this book. There are detailed photos of the interior and exterior of the aircraft including the crew positions.
The Privateer was a heavily armed (6-twin .50 cal. machine gun turrets) four-engine, long range, land-based, patrol bomber developed from the famous B-24/PB4Y-1 Liberator. Introduced in 1943, the Privateer was a full navalized version of the Liberator. It was responsible for sinking over 550 Japanese ships and shooting down almost 50 enemy aircraft. It usually operated alone but sometimes with a second Privateer on its missions lasting up to 11-12 hours at a time. The Privateer was used in WWII and Korea before being retired in 1954.
