Berlin Wannsee 1998 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift in 1998 with a varying assortment of flying boats landing and taking off on Lake Wannsee near Berlin.

In 1948, at the dawn of the Cold War, the Soviet Union sealed off all Allied land access to then occupied Berlin. The only means of supplying the Allied-occupied sectors of the city was via air. Much of the resupply effort was being handled by four-engine C-54 Skymasters. However, a lessor known aspect to the Berlin Airlift is that British Sunderland flying boats were also used to resupply Berlin. These huge flying boats used Lake Wannsee near Berlin for landing and taking off.

It is the effort of these British Sunderland flying boats that is being celebrated by this airshow with various flying boat models. The following flying boats took part in this celebratory airshow: the Grumman Albatross, Renegades, a Widgeon, the mighty Beriev 12 dropping tons of water, the PBY Catalina, and Cessnas on floats. The DVD also includes a flight on the Grumman Albatross flying boat from Tempelhof Airport to Lake Wannsee!

The DVD is in NTSC format. Run time is about 40 minutes in color without any narration.
