USAAF Douglas C-47 Skytrain Disc 2

This DVD contains a collection of films on Douglas C-47 Skytrain which is the military version of the DC-3. The C-47 was one of the most versatile and prolific two-engine transport planes of WWII serving in a variety of roles such as cargo ship, gunship, ambulance and transport.

Film #1 - The Transport - ATC Motto; "We'll go anywhere, take anything that will possibly fit into a plane". The ATC (Air Transport Command) has 110 thousand miles of scheduled routes, which is equivalent to 4 1/2 times around the world and carries supplies at the rate of 10 million miles a month. Amazing! Runtime is about 19 minutes.

Film #2 - The C-47 Ambulance - A collection of three short films on transports carrying the wounded out of the front lines to hospitals in the rear. From Sicily to 6 days after D-day, landing on the beaches of Normandie as runways in order to carry out the wounded. Runtime is about 12 minutes.

Film #3 - The AC-47 Gunship - Somewhere in the hidden jungles around the world, rebels hear a lone transport in the sky. Thinking there was nothing to worry about, the enemy goes about the plotting and planning of war. But then, the old C-47 Transport rains down massive 50 cal fire and destroys the enemy camp. This film then shows the dynamics on how to fly and attack with the AC-47 Gunship. Runtime is about 20 minutes.

Film #4 - Transports And Paratroops - A collection of films on the C-47 transport, paratroopers and sometimes the use of the Waco Glider to deliver fighting men and equipment around the world. They include areas like Europe, the Pacific, and even Greece. Runtime is about 21 minutes.

Film #5 - The C-47 Cargo Ship - A collection of seven newsreels of the C-47 transport carrying cargo and people to far off locations around the world. Starts off with Seabees building a runway on an island in the Pacific. 2nd, Celebrity Joe E. Brown is flown in to entertain the troops.3rd, An airbase is built in New Guinea and C-47s fly in supplies and carry out the wounded. 4th, Leaflets are dropped in Italy. 5th, Food and supplies are dropped off in the jungles of Burma. 6th, Supplies are carried over the Hump in China as the Ledo Road is built. 7th, The transports carry WACS from Italy back to America. Runtime is about 23 minutes.
