This DVD is a collection of six films on the Allied landings in Normandy France during WWII. Many historians claim that D-Day - June 6th 1944 was one of the most important days in all of history. Ike said to his troops: "the eyes of the free world are upon you", and Field Marshall Rommel said: "If the Allies are not pushed off the shore on the first day, the war would be lost". Both were right.

On June 4th, conditions were unsuitable for a landing: high winds and heavy seas made it impossible to launch landing craft, and low clouds would prevent aircraft from finding their targets. However, Allied meteorologists predicted that the weather would improve enough for the invasion to proceed on June 6th. Therefore Eisenhower decided that the invasion should go ahead on June 6th. Hitler and Rommel both thought that the invasion would not happen on June 6th, so Rommel raced home to celebrate his wife's birthday. The rest is, as they say, "History".

Film #1 - 6 Months to D-Day - This film is actually called "Normandy Invasion" and it was produced by the US Coast Guard. Runtime is about 20 minutes.

Film #2 - D-Day Minus One - An Army film tells the story about how paratrooper and glider soldiers helped win the battle of D-Day. There was a high casualty rate for these troops the night before D-Day from accidents and enemy fire. They were also scattered in the night, but they did secure their drop and landing zones to support the invasion. Runtime is about 17 minutes.

Film #3 - Victory at Sea D-Day - No story is complete without the famous Victory at Sea stories. This one on D-Day is one of the best ever told. Runtime is about 26 minutes.

Film #4 - German Version of D-Day-June 6th - Now in English! This a very fascinating German newsreel about D-Day from the German propaganda machine. It is a very good copy of their side of the story. Runtime is about 17 minutes.

Film #5 - The Battle of Dieppe - These two historical newsreels on the Battle of Dieppe, one is an American newsreel and the other is a German newsreel. The British came up with the idea to invade Germany's Atlantic Wall in late 1942 and it was a total disaster. Runtime is about 13 minutes.

Film #6 - D-Day Newsreels - This is a collection of newsreels of the day on D-Day. Runtime is about 14 minutes.
