| The YF-23 Black Widow II Stealth Fighter Jet Web of Secrecy DVD tells the story of the YF-23 fighter jet that was conceived, designed and built during the Cold War when the two superpowers were embroiled in an invisible conflict of arms escalation and air superiority.
The aging American F-15 Eagle held on to a slim advantage in controlling the skies but there was clear need for a shift in aerial strategy by the United States. The answer was the 'Advanced Technical Fighter' (ATF). During the late 1980s, two companies competed against each other by designing and building flying prototypes.
Two YF-23 prototypes were built with one using Pratt & Whitney YF119 engines and the other using General Electric YF120 engines. In order to reduce cost, a number of F-15 components were used including the nosewheel assembly and the forward cockpit section. The first YF-23 flight occurred in mid-1990.
Nicknamed the Black Widow II due to its stealth capabilities, the YF-23 can trace its lineage back to the Norhtrop P-61 Black Widow night fighter of WWII which was the stealth fighter of its time.
The YF-23 DVD relates the inside story of the Northrop YF-23 ATF as told by the people who know her best - the designers, builders, and pilots. Hear first-hand accounts of how the best and brightest aerospace talents were assembled and their triumph, heartbreak and final reconciliation. Ever wonder what it takes to design a modern jet fighter? From design engineers to test pilots to crew chiefs, each has a story to tell in this rare inside look at a once 'Top Secret' black project.
